Our History Meet the Staff The Lodge Employment

Resort Owners & Managers - Andrea & Shayne Stuchbery

Shayne and Andrea have spearheaded the Coastal Trek experience since breaking ground on Forbidden Plateau over three years ago. Living on the property with their two young children, the venture of providing health and fitness education and activities has become a way of life.

Aside from providing the friendly face of Coastal Trek, Shayne and Andrea spend their time raising their children and living the active lifestyle that the Comox Valley so readily offers. Don't be surprised to see Shayne enjoying the wilderness surrounding the lodge or Andrea heading down to the river with the kids for a hike or a summer swim.

Shayne and Andrea's passion for nature, music, food and other enriching activities permeates the Coastal Trek philosophy of learning, appreciating, and sharing in a healthy lifestyle. All of which makes for an enterprise that continues to blossom as more creative ideas are made real and imparted on each guest who visits the lodge on Forbidden Plateau.

Lead Hiking Guide - Mike Blake

An eternal optimist, Mike has an irrepressible good humour that perfectly compliments his deep love of the outdoors. With an attention to safety and technical detail, Mike sets himself apart as a Hiking Guide. Each expedition with Mike at the helm leaves a Coastal Trek Hiker happier, more confident, healthier and, more often than not, a little more knowledgable about Vancouver Island. A Comox Valley Local since 1995, he has a wealth of information about local history, geography, flora and fauna to share with clients. An avid year round outdoor lover, Mike spends plenty of time each year hiking, snowboarding / skiing (guide/instructor), and mountain biking.

Mike lives on site here at Coastal Trek (lucky him, and lucky us!) so you will often see him employing his many skills to keep the Lodge running at its most efficient. He is also kind enough to join clients from time to time around the fire in the great room during the evening.

Clients can also enjoy statistics and tracking information that Mike provides as part of his guiding which can give an impressive and detailed overall picture of the success of the program for each guest.

Mike also runs his own business Sea Peak Adventures

Yoga Instructor and Massage Practitioner - Tracy Dixon

Tracy Dixon has been an avid Yogini since discovering the healing benefits following a back injury she sustained while traveling in New Zealand in 1991.
Tracy is originally from the Comox Valley and while visiting family in 1993 she met her Yoga teacher, Vicky Catchpole. This meeting led to a  two year apprenticeship in the Ivengar tradition and vindicated the urge to remain and settle in the Comox Valley area. Completion of  the Yoga training only whetted her appetite for more exploration into the body’s potential for grace and ease in movement so Tracy followed her curiosity to Boulder, Colorado and Sao Paulo, Brazil to study the Rolf Method for Structural Integration. She became a Guild-certified practitioner in 1997, and has maintained a private practice in the Valley since.

Tracy continues to follow her passion for learning and teaching and adventure around the globe, and has taught in a variety of venues, from tiny islands to remote inlets, from Grecian terraces to the mountain regions of Northern India. She is always drawn back to the nourishment of the transcendent climes of the Comox Valley and is excited to continue the adventure at Coastal Trek Resort.

On Call Counsellor - Janet Beggs

If you are aware of unresolved personal or relationship concerns or have a general sense that you are not as happy as you could be, consider booking a session with our on-call counsellor.

Janet Beggs is an experienced Registered Clinical Counsellor who enjoys working with us because of her own recreational interests and love of the mountains. Janet sees her role as providing a space together in which to explore your thoughts and feelings, experiences and their meanings, and possible ways forward.

“Some people worry that I'll find them silly or crazy or think that other people have more serious problems,” says Janet. “It's my job to know that what they have sought counselling for is significant to them. If someone spends the time focused on what is important for them, counselling is likely to be of benefit.”

Janet has experience dealing with all kinds of problems and situations; especially: career guidance, obstacles and action blocks, tough decisions, addictions, life transitions, self/others/work balance, boundaries, and trauma recovery.
